GAS OVERVIEW

Operators who want to reduce their operating cost and carbon footprint, do not have to buy dedicated gas-powered trucks to replace their existing diesels engines. We save monry by retrofitting their current at cost far below obtaining new trucks and equally efficeint.


The way the system works after conversion is this: -

  • The engine starts up conventionally, on 100% diesel fuel; then, as it reaches working temperature and demand, the gas is introduced (at much lower pressure than diesel injection) along with the intake air, up to typically 50% gas/50% derv – this is known as 50% substitution rate. This can be increased in some diesel engines 25% diesel and 75% CNG.


  • Compress Natural Gas

CNG is natural gas, main component is methane (CH4) compressed at high pressure and transported by specialized vehicles and tank. Commonly used units: cm3, mmbtu.


  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)

LPG is liquefied petroleum gas, mainly composed of propane (C3H8) and butane (C4H6). LPG is stored in tanks (LPG BATTERY) or extracted in bottle (LPG BOTTLE).  Commonly used units: Ton, Kg.

Biogas

We now promote and build bio-digesters on farms, encouraging bio-gas as a route to energy independence for Nigerians. We undertake Energy Independent training in various Nigeria Universities (contact us).



Mixture of methane, CO2 and small quantities of other gases produced by anaerobic digestion of organic matter in an oxygen-free environment. The precise composition of biogas depends on the type of feedstock and production by the following main technologies


Biodigesters

Are airtight systems (e.g., containers or tanks) in which organic material, diluted in water, is broken down by naturally occurring micro‑organisms. Contaminants and moisture are removed by filter and drier prior to use of the biogas.

Landfill gas recovery systems

Decomposition of municipal solid waste (MSW) under anaerobic conditions at landfill sites produces biogas. This can be captured using pipes and extraction wells along with compressors to induce flow to a central collection point.


Wastewater Treatment Plants

These plants are capable of recovering organic matter, solids, and nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus from sewage sludge. Additional treatment allow the sewage sludge to be used as input to produce biogas in an anaerobic digester.

Methane content of biogas typically ranges from 45% to 75% by volume, the remainder mostly being CO2. This variation means that the energy content of biogas does vary; the Lower Heating Value (LHV) is between 16 megajoules per cubic metre (MJ/m3) and 28 MJ/m3. The important note here is Bio-gas can be used directly to produce electricity and heat or as an energy source for cooking.


Biomethane

Also known as “renewable natural gas”, is an alternative source of methane produced either by “upgrading” biogas (this process removes CO2 and other contaminants present in the biogas) or through the gasification of solid biomass followed by methanation.


Upgrading biogas

This process accounts for about 90% of total biomethane produced worldwide. The use of technologies on different properties of various gases contained within biogas to separate them, i.e.; water scrubbing and membrane separation account for about 60% of biomethane production globally.
